I started drawing 'Klaus' in or around October 2009, around the same time I found out about Philip Guston, in particular his later cartoonish work. I know that Guston is generally well known, and well known among cartoonists (I think a Guston character is among the population of Michael DeForge's cartoon-hell in Lose #1 (?)), but I'd not come across his work until late.
I also really like Shunji Sonoyama's drawings. I've been reading Frederik L. Schodt's book "Manga! Manga!" recently and I'm sure that's the first time I've seen Sonoyama's work. There's not a lot of Sonoyama on the internet, or I haven't been very good at finding it. I'd also like to see more of Yoshiko Tsuchida and Sampei Sato.
I'm working on something at the moment which could be very exciting, for me at least, for which I've drawn a dozen new Klaus strips. These are some panels from those strips - just to show that I'm not inactive!
