I've decided on a fresh start with a new blog - with a name I don't have to explain/justify (as it's my own). So it would be great if you could follow www.richard-short.blogspot.com and I will try and update it regularly to make it worth you moving.

I moved to London in April and I don't yet have a working scanner so I can't show much new drawing. But I've recently contributed six Klaus/Otto pages to the next Two Fast Colour anthology, which can be followed on their new tumblr page. I think this one will have quite a bit about Toulouse comics in it.

I started drawing 'Klaus' in or around October 2009, around the same time I found out about Philip Guston, in particular his later cartoonish work. I know that Guston is generally well known, and well known among cartoonists (I think a Guston character is among the population of Michael DeForge's cartoon-hell in Lose #1 (?)), but I'd not come across his work until late.

I also really like Shunji Sonoyama's drawings. I've been reading Frederik L. Schodt's book "Manga! Manga!" recently and I'm sure that's the first time I've seen Sonoyama's work. There's not a lot of Sonoyama on the internet, or I haven't been very good at finding it. I'd also like to see more of Yoshiko Tsuchida and Sampei Sato.

Versions of Black Lightning and Tobias Whale, from my sketchbook. From what I read today Black Lightning is an electrified teacher who lives in a place called Suicide Slum and Tobias Whale, his enemy, heads a a gang of 15th century European immortals called The 100, though Whale is not immortal, he's just a fat albino drug dealer. If I thought I could be arsed to finish it then I would definately try to write a Black Lightning comic.

I went to the fashion illustration exhibition at the Design Museum in London yesterday, and was taken by the illustrations of Georges Lepape. None of the above images appear in the exhibition though. There was also some lovely work by Eduardo Garcia Benito and Antonio, amongst others.
